I am an Associate Professor of German in the Department of Linguistics, Languages and Cultures and Director of the Language Research Centre at the University of Calgary. My work focuses primarily on L2 learners of German, and I have recently been working in two main areas. One line of research looks at the extent to which English-German L2 learners process and make use of prosodic cues like word and sentence stress and intonation. Other recent studies focus on methodological issues in studies investigating fluency, comprehensibility, and accent. I have just competed a book called German Phonetics and Phonology: Theory and Practice with my colleague Sarah Fagan (University of Iowa).
