I am an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at Brock University in the Niagara Region of Canada and an Honorary Visiting Fellow in the Graduate School of Education, University of Bristol, UK. In broad terms, my research program examines the development of L2 pronunciation, L2 oral fluency and listener reactions to L2 speech. I am currently investigating how computer assisted pronunciation training (CAPT) may facilitate easier and more rapid development of L2 speech perception and production, and have created a widely used learner-oriented website: www.englishaccentcoach.com. This pronunciation training website is informed by findings from laboratory research. I have also investigated professional preparation of pronunciation teachers and ethical dilemmas posed by the unregulated accent reduction industry.
