I am Associate Professor of Education and Affiliated Faculty in Linguistics at Boston University. I’m also Director of the graduate program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) in the School of Eduction, where I teach courses in linguistics, second language acquisition, and applied phonology. I have co-authored a pronunciation textbook and teacher’s manual, Sound Concepts, with Christina Michaud (Mc-Graw-Hill) and an edited volume, The Handbook of English Pronunciation, with John Levis (Wiley-Blackwell). The focus of my research, publications, and conference presentations is second language acquisition, specifically in applied phonology. My current areas of interest and research are the role of auditory feedback in the perception and production of connected discourse, the role of metalinguistic feedback in the acquisition of morphosyntax, and the role of metacognition in cross-linguistic awareness of the pragmatic functions of English prosody.
